The digital press and bindery operator is responsible for providing services for custom projects in compliance with job specifications while meeting company and customer quality standards and expectations. The perfect candidate will be operating multiple digital presses and assisting the bindery department as needed.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Operate multiple digital presses to produce printed pieces (ie Konica Minolta, Ricoh, etc.) using Fiery Command Workstation and impositions
- Manage spot color libraries
- Set-up and run equipment at or above established efficiency and quality standards
- Rip files produced from static and variable data formats
- Review all proofs and final product samples produced on digital equipment before releasing to internal or external customers
- Produce complex jobs such as products with numbering, variable data, or multiple versions - Make standard adjustments as required to ensure quality standards are met
- Perform color calibration and maintenance to ensure accuracy and consistency of color output
- Work with available resources to ensure printed product maintains color accuracy and consistency
- Troubleshoot problems within the printing process, including operation of the machinery, throughout of substrate, color adjustment and alignment issues, as well as compatibility with finishing processes
- Check work and assume responsibility for accuracy and quality before passing the job on to the next step
- Complete preventive maintenance on schedule, troubleshoot issues, and work with external technicians to resolve issues as needed
- Set up and operates the various bindery machines to produce a job in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with work order/job tickets. This may include: folding, cutting, padding, numbering, spiral or coil binding, collating, scoring, perforating, drilling, stitching or stapling, laminating and wrapping.
- Package jobs, complete work orders, tickets, and delivery receipts as necessary and place them in their assigned areas
- Check materials to be sure the right materials are to be cut, folded, inserted, or labeled
- Report unusual wear, machine noises, and other faults of the digital equipment to the appropriate person, which may include external technicians
- Follow company recommended techniques for lifting, stacking, manipulating, and handling materials
- Monitor inventory levels of consumables and supplies, and replenish as needed
- Keep all product organized and in the proper location and ensures all product is correctly identified
- Maintain a clean work area by properly storing supplies and materials, removing waste, keeping areas surrounding worksite clean, and cleaning and storing tools.

Requirements:
- Must be able to set up, run, and maintain any of the machines in the digital department
- Must understand the work flow and sequence of production operations in the digital department
- Have basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and converting fractions into decimals and vice-versa. Ability to solve ratios and proportions from job ticket, read and calculate weight measurements.
- Must be able to read and estimate measurements of time, apply rounding and estimating to solve paper and material problems, and read and use a ruler, tape, or other calibrated scale to measure various lines and stacks of materials.
- Have good problem-solving skills to be able to recognize, identify, analyze, generate alternatives, and communicate with others about problem situations.
- Hear and speak effectively in order to communicate with employees, technicians, vendors, etc.
- Read both handwritten and typed notes
- Evaluate own work
- Adapt to changes in customer's specifications and standard operating procedures
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize them
- Work under conditions caused by deadlines and meet deadlines
- Bend, stretch, reach, and kneel to perform duties of the position
- Lift repetitively and move at least 50 pounds
- Stand for prolonged periods of time, up to eight hours
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to match color.
- Experience running digital printing or finishing equipment – 2+ years required
- Strong technical and mechanical skills to manage the functioning of digital presses and bindery equipment
- Knowledge and understanding of printing processes, equipment, and ideas including substrate characteristics
- Knowledge of basic color theory and color management principles
- Work with moving mechanical parts with potential pinch points, cuts and crush points
- Basic mechanical skills and ability to use hand tools required.
- Work well independently and within a team environment to ensure productivity and quality
- Follow instructions, both verbal and written
- Experience with graphics software a plus
- Must be able to fulfill the responsibilities of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation (as defined in the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990).

- Learn basic functions of various machinery- numbering, punching, shrink wrapping, coiling, stitching.
- Employee must be able to run bindery equipment in a small format capacity. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, cutter, folder, saddle stitcher, drilling machine, shrink wrapper, etc.
- Complete job according to ticket specifications and produce quality work.
- Learn existing equipment and train on new to continue meeting primary responsibilities.
- Troubleshoot production problems to ensure productivity and quality standards are met.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management

The Graphic Designer/Pre-press Operator is responsible for performing a variety of functions in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards to ensure overall customer satisfaction and service. Produces pre-press graphics and text to job specifications/requirements. The pre-press operator executes design, layout and typesetting projects accurately and effectively, assists inside and outside sales staff in promoting services to customers, schedules all work to meet customer time-frame requirements, and works closely with other staff members to exceed customer satisfaction and service.
